UNIGE TUTORING AND GUIDANCE SERVICES: A SYSTEM INTERVENTION
Main Article Content
Abstract
The present paper offers a reflection on the effectiveness of tutoring and learning support services in tackling the risk of erratic academic performance and university dropping out, by analysing and taking into account the factors underlying these phenomena.
University of Genova carries out a program aimed at supporting freshers and involving University Faculties and Departments. The program is designed within the peer tutoring and guidance services for all students attending their first year of a university course. It is known as “Progetto Matricole” (Freshers Program) and provides information, counseling and support to improve students’ educational outcomes and attainments. The program is delivered by a team of lecturers, tutors and trained staff. Conclusions suggest some changes in the organizational structure of the tutoring service, in light of what has been established by the Law - December 2016 N. 232 and the Plans for Guidance and Tutoring.
