Abstract

The article relates some considerations about the role that the university is called to play on the theme of lifelong learning, building, thereby the role it could have with relation to the eman-cipation of the people and deve-lopment territory. The lifelong learning contri-bution - integrated compared to "canonical" higher education - represents a new task to the traditional mission of universities, more and more indispensable than the transformations crossing the society in all sectors, particularly in the labor market. For that purpose, the arti-cle analyses some indications given to the Eu-ropean governments national universities and specifically examines what was achieved date in Italy. It then refers to the initiatives taken to this effect at the University of Foggia.
